Easy Mother's Day Craft for Kids

Melissa Bastow

This Mother's Day craft is fun for kids and easy for you.  Plus it's cheap to make and is much more useful than a macaroni necklace!

This is what you'll need to do this craft:

  • 38 Wood Craft Sticks
  • Decorative Washi Tape
  • Adhesive Craft Letters
  • Hot Glue Gun
  • Scissors

Start by making the side panels.  For the one side panel, take 12 sticks and lay them side by side.  Using hot glue, attach one craft stick across them about ¼ inch from the tops and another craft stick across them about ¼ inch from the bottoms.  Repeat the process for the other side panel.

For the base, you need to cut 6 sticks in half so you have 12 pieces.  Lay these side by side and glue one stick across them about ¼ inch from the tops and another craft stick across them about ¼ inch from the bottoms. This should look just like the side panels except smaller.

Now that your sides and bottom is built take some time to decorate the side panels with your washi tape.  This is where the kids get to be creative!  If you don't have washi tape you can use paint (but tape is just so much easier to clean up!)

Once you have the tape or paint on like you want glue the side panels perpendicular to the long edges of the base panel, with the cross sticks to the inside.

Glue a regular craft stick to the outside of each side panel (at the bottom) to provide extra support.

You can apply letters to spell out the word "Mom" or "Mom's Napkins", or any words you would like!  Let the kids pick!  The decorating is really the fun part anyway.

Once your napkin holder is put together and everyone has added their finishing touches, fill it with some napkins and give it to mom on Mother's Day - she'll love it!
