Halloween Mason Jar Craft Tutorial

mason jar craft tutorial

If you're looking for a super easy Halloween craft to use as decor or gifts, then this is the tutorial for you.  This mason jar craft is cute and fun, super easy to do, and only takes a few minutes to complete.  And the process could be applied for any holiday, which is awesome.

The first thing you need to do for this project is to pick the Halloween scene that you want to have on your jar.  It needs to be something simple that can be done in one color.  Here are some options I came up with.  If you'd like to use any of these just right click on the image below and select print or save from the menu that pops up.

Everything you're going to need for this project:

• A pint sized mason jar.  I just used an old one that had yellow polka dots on it before they melted in my dishwasher- I didn't want to use it for real anymore, but I didn't want to waste it, so now it's going to be a Halloween decoration for awhile.

• A picture to trace.

• Washi tape.

• A sharpie or paint marker (depending on how long you want it to last).  I just used a sharpie because I'm fickle and will want to make a new one of these next year, so it doesn't matter if this one fades.

Once you have your picture selected, printed and cut out, you need to tape it to the inside of the jar.  Washi tape is good for this because it comes off easily later.  Make sure you align the picture exactly where you want it to end up on the finished jar.

Using a sharpie or paint marker trace around the image (don't fill things in yet - just get outlines for now).  If you want a suggestion on which kind of paint markers to use, the reviews are all pretty positive on these:

Make sure you haven't missed outlining anything and then take your paper with the scene on it out of the jar.  Fill in all the objects and touch up the lines with your marker.  If you're using a regular sharpie you can just let it dry (which happens really fast).  If you need to bake the marker in, make sure to follow the instructions on the package.

You can also decorate your jar with more washi tape, craft string, ribbon, other colors of markers, etc.  And then fill it with whatever your heart desires - fake eyeballs, yummy treats, zombie slime....
